Meet the team

LAUREN VINES

  • Hi there! I’m a registered psychologist with a passion for providing quality therapy services to the Wheatbelt community. Since 2020, I’ve been dedicated to working in this region, where finding mental health support can be a real challenge. I love being part of this community and making a positive difference in people’s lives.

On a personal note, I’m a proud mum to three energetic boys who have taught me more about life than any formal training ever could! Parenting has given me a deep understanding of the everyday struggles and joys of being ‘everything to everyone.’

I firmly believe in celebrating neurodiversity and understanding that each person is unique. I’m committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. My approach is person-centered, meaning I work closely with you to recognise your strengths and understand your needs and goals.
After all, you are the expert in your own life!

To ensure I provide the best support, I regularly engage in professional learning and training. I use a variety of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.

My academic background includes a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Curtin University (2011), a Postgraduate Certificate in Forensic Mental Health from Griffith University (2014), and a Graduate Diploma of School Psychology from UWA (2019).

  • I am a psychologist experienced with disability presentations in the NDIS, adolescent mental health, and parent mental health coaching. Before becoming a clinician, I was a disability support worker for six years, providing me with a strong foundation for forming therapeutic relationships with clients. I firmly believe that therapy isn't just somebody who is a professional in a clinic, but who can be a supporter in the field as well.

I love video games and am familiar with all the new generation greats (according to the kids!) - like Fortnite, Roblox, Pokemon, and Minecraft - and I love using this knowledge to provide a safe and fun space for my younger clients. I am quick to learn the ins-and-outs of a person's interests and not only do I love hearing about what makes a person tick, but I think it can be an extremely valuable tool to therapy.

I have experience in providing services to queer clients, e.g. gender non-conforming individuals, and am closely aligned with neurodiversity affirming care, understanding that sometimes the classic model for therapy services just won't cut it for everyone. Our services are person-centred and do not go ahead without full understanding between both the client and myself.

I can provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), short-term Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, developing problem-solving frameworks for ongoing day-to-day concerns, and psycho-education around the function of our negative feelings and how we can address those.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Curtin University in 2016.

I am based in Perth and travel to Northam one day per fortnight.

ARRIANNE MEDCALF

  • I’m a behaviour support practitioner working within the NDIS space, supporting clients across all stages of life. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with participants, their families, and various service providers to help improve their quality of life.

Recently, I made the move to the beautiful Wheatbelt after living and working in Perth. I'm also a parent to two wonderful children. When I'm not working, you can find me enjoying knitting, crafting, baking, and spending time with family and friends.

While I've been working in the NDIS space for three years, my personal journey and lived experience spans over 30 years. Having lived with a family member with an intellectual disability, I understand firsthand the impact challenging behaviours can have on a family. My goal has always been to give back to families like mine in return for all the amazing assistance we received. I am passionate about finding solutions that work, in collaboration with people I support.

I've completed additional training in neurodiversity-affirming practice, trauma-informed therapy, and person-centred, individualized services. These qualifications help me provide the best support possible, tailored to each person’s unique needs.

My academic background includes a Bachelor of Speech Pathology from Edith Cowan University, completed in 2014. Although I don’t practice as a speech pathologist, I have a deep understanding of the significant impact communication difficulties can have on a person’s life.

I offer services in Northam, York, Toodyay, and the surrounding areas, as well as the southeastern suburbs of Perth (e.g. Midland, Armadale, Kelmscott).

  • I'm a behaviour support practitioner dedicated to working with clients of all ages. My experience spans across dementia, acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injuries, and neurological disorders like Huntington’s Disease. I've also had the opportunity to work in disability justice, bringing a unique perspective to my practice.

Living in the Wheatbelt myself, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find the right services and supports when you need them.

I hold a diploma in Counselling and have completed Team Teach training, equipping me with the skills to provide safe physical handling when necessary. I also worked as a Support Coordinator for over two years, which gave me a robust understanding of the NDIS and how to navigate its often confusing system.

In my spare time, I love riding horses and bikes, and I enjoy training with the West Coast Cowboys whenever I can squeeze it in!

I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of those I support and finding practical, person-centered solutions that truly work. My goal is to collaborate with clients and their families to enhance their quality of life and address their unique needs.

I provide services in Cunderdin, Northam, Brookton, Narrogin, and Boddington, as well as the southeastern suburbs of Perth.

PETA MILLER (she/her)

  • I’m a provisional psychologist with over eight years of experience supporting individuals in challenging circumstances, particularly in suicide prevention and rural and remote mental health. I began my psychology journey as a mature-age student, completing a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours in 2015, and I’m currently pursuing a Master of Clinical Psychology part-time.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked in diverse settings, including as a provisional psychologist in an employee assistance setting; and as a senior case manager in the mining and construction industries, where I provided suicide prevention support in metro, FIFO, and rural/remote locations. My roles involved managing workplace mental health issues such as critical incidents, injuries, and general counselling/ psychology services, as well as delivering suicide prevention and mental health training. For 10 years, I have also worked with children and adolescents aged 9–18 who required behaviour support due to trauma.

In addition to individual counselling, I’m experienced in developing and facilitating psychoeducation programs. As a certified LivingWorks trainer, I’ve delivered numerous workshops, including ASIST, SafeTALK, and SuicideTALK. I’m passionate about creating safe spaces, fostering trust, and supporting individuals through life’s difficulties.

Currently, I’m excited to be part of Wheatbelt Psychology, where I’m combining my passion for rural mental health with person-centred therapy and positive behaviour support. I welcome the opportunity to work with NDIS participants and contribute to the Wheatbelt community.

When I’m not working or studying, I love long-distance hiking and have completed most of the Bibbulmun Track. I’m also a proud mum of a 20-year-old son who’s studying at university alongside me.
